My brother and I went to see Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy at the weekend. Despite all the bad press that it has received, we both throughly enjoyed it. Alan Rickman was great as Marvin, and the Infinite Improbably Drive was very well done (esp. the knitting), even though I am sure that the Heart of Gold should be long an thin, rather than looking like a puffed-up puffer fish. Other choice bits were Bill Bailey as the whale, Vogon poetry and the Magrathean ‘factory floor’.

As I am not particularly au fait with either the books or radio broadcasts, all I can say is that it seemed to follow the story as I recall it (man leaves earth, strangeness ensues), though my brother (who knows them a lot better) complained that it made “far too much sense”.

For those interested, Hitchhikers Guide – Quandary Phase starts at 6:30pm tonight on Radio 4, and the original TV series starts at 11:20pm on BBC2.
