I have been using coComment for a few days as a way to track my comments and to try to provoke me into writing more of them1. So far it looks positive – getting an invite to beta-test was not at all tricky, it works with the majority of blogs I have come across so far, and I may actually be commenting more too…
The biggest annoyance was forgetting to click the little javascript widget before posting, and thus the comment was not submitted to my tracker2 (pop-up comments also pose a problem as they appear sans-toolbar). Fortunately there is a handy greasemonkey script that remembers to do this for you, and works with pop-ups as well.
So should anyone actually read this and wonder what else I have been saying, there is now an imaginatively titled ‘coComments’ page.
[Update: coComment is now registration-free]

Very nice find indeed – I too would forget about the little icon in the taskbar
[...] Great find by Ian is a greasemonkey script which automatically does the submission to cocomment so saving the oft-forgotten clicking of the icon in the taskbar / bookmarks. Very useful indeed ! ¤ Read (1) [...]
Thanks for that Ian. I’m sure I read somewhere of an online service doing the same (for those of us who wander between computers willy nilly) but I can’t remember what on earth it was called. If I do remember I’ll let you know but I’ve signed up for this in the meantime.
