A man walks one mile due south, stops, turns and walks a mile due east. He stops again, turns and walks one mile North. Arriving back at his starting position he pulls out his gun he shoots a bird.
What colour(s) was it? (and where did he start from?).

Black and white. The North Pole. I claim my five pounds.
One out of two
any type of bird in particular?
Black and White ? Your thinking Penguins – Aren’t they from the south pole ? That’s why polar bears cant eat them – Along with the fact that they can’t get the wrappers off.
The bird would be white – And red after being shot.
Peguins is indeed right, and they are indeed from South Pole (more or less).
Surely he started from the North pole ? Any directtion from the NP would be south. If he started from the south pole (where penguins are) then he would only be able to travel North ?
Please feel free to publicly insult me for being pedantic !
True, if he starts at the south pole. If he starts 1,159m (ish) north, when he walks 1km south, he will be at a point where walking east for 1km will take him exactly one full circumference at that latitude and he will be back where he started walking east.
He could of course start at any point 1km north of a point where multiple ‘laps’ of the pole would be exactly 1km.
That will teach me to read the description fully !
Much obliged for the excellent description !
