This feels like 1998 all over again…
- Astana-Wurth formally asked to compete, appeal, win, and will now race.
- The List from the Spanish anti-doping investigation (Operacion Puerto) has been leaked/ released, naming 58 rider including Jan Ullrich, Oscar Sevilla, Ivan Basso and Joseba Beloki. (It should be noted that approximately 150 other sportsmen are also on the list – this is not limited to cycling).
- Jan Ullrich and Oscar Sevilla suspended by their team- T-Mobile as a result of the above.
- [Updated] Ivan Basso has also been pulled by his CSC team.
- I still have a feeling there will be more to come.
This is not quite so bad yet as when a doctor for the Festina team was stopped with stacks of EPO and other drugs on the way to the race in 1998, but it is not good. It also shame this has come to light on the eve of the tour, rather than being dealt with in quieter times.
