I was contacted a while ago by Skins with regards to an ‘interesting opertunity’. Simply, in exchange for a freebie pair of c400 bibshorts I agreed to come up with a ‘Landmark Challenge’.

Since I have not yet mastered iMovie, I hereby present the text version of mine:

The Sydney Centennial Park 1-Lap Challenge

It’s pretty simple really. One lap, 2.36miles (3.86km). Post your time.

As with most things, there are rules and the rules are thus1:

  1. The start and finish are at the Fox Studio Gate, Centennial Park
  2. Think ‘Athletes Hour’ – Aero will make you go faster but my time was set on a road bike. If you blitz it on a P4 in a skinsuit at least say thats what you did.
  3. Likewise, getting a 40kmh tow from a big bunch will get you round fast, but that’s not really fair is it?
  4. A gentle rolling start is fine to avoid faffing with clipping in, crossing the startline full bore is only cheating yourself.
  5. Ride early – gates don’t open to cars till around 7am. Less things to avoid = more fun. It’ll probably be cooler and stiller too.
  6. Don’t be a twatwaffle – Centennial Park is very popular with pedestrians and cyclists, if it’s too busy, back down and come back another day (See 5).
  7. Pay extra attention around the Randwick Gate – visibilty is not great here (See 5).

My best so far is 6:082. Thats the landmark.

  1. Its my challenge so my rules.
  2. This was set a good while ago, a c400 assisted attempt (following actual training) will be forthcoming.
