This weekend it was clear and I happened to have a crappy 2Mp digital camera from work to hand. So, hand-holding the camera to the eyepiece of my telescope I tried taking some pictures:
Jupiter
Stack of best 3 of 5 images taken, processed with Registax. North and south equatorial belts and southern polar region are (just) visible. Distance from earth = 400,000,000 miles (approx).
Venus
Single image. Distance from earth = 50,000,000 miles (approx).
I am moderately happy with the results considering the setup used and hope to try taking a .Avi clip next time for more data. Hopefully in the future I can get a webcam and PC connected to the telescope and see if I can get close to images like this.
