Since Radio 1 now features the DJ linup from hell - Moyles, Cox, Murray and Mills I don’t even bother anymore. [At least Jo Whiley knows about music, I fear the day when this lineup is permanent]. I also have trouble getting past the bile-inducing ‘r & b’ which appears to make up most of the play list (Isn’t that why 1extra was created?).
Luckily, at work I have a fast broadband link so have been diverting myself with podcasts instead. Of particular note so far are:
- The Daily Source Code (which I am sure everyone has heard too).
- The Cambridge Podcast - assorted local1 music (and the Peruvian nation anthem).
- Slacker Astronomy - astronomy stuff, of interest to non-techy people too.
Also I think work a mention are the band Badwell Ash. I first heard about them via the Cambridge Podcast and they are better than 90% of R1’s output. The sound is pretty much like early Pearl Jam, with the lead singer having a very Vedder-esq yowl2. More info here and some mp3s here.
2In my view a Good ThingTM.

I’ll give them a listen later. Totally agree that, bar the delectable Queen Jo, it’s gone down the pan completely.
Peelie must be spinning.
It’s odd, when R1 did 3 days of British music, it was far, far better than their normal programming. Maybe it is a sign of my increasing eld and the fact that I no longer fall within the target audience.
