Sure they’re interesting - I’d take interest in anything capable of annihilating human civilization in a global catastrophe, wouldn’t you? As for learning about the formation of the universe, that’s very well and interesting, but I’m more interested in the immediate practicalities.
Unfortunately, the immediate practicality is that the prediction of orbital paths to a level of accuracy where impact with earth can be determined is more or less impossible (within 100,000km is just about achievable).
Notwithstanding that, there is little we could do about an impact anyway, bar hoping that Jupiter does its’ ‘trash-collector of the solar system’ thing and snags it instead.
